Shore Thing Rentals was founded in 2012 with a simple belief: everyone should have an easy way to experience the beauty of the water and the outdoors.

What started as a way to get people out on the water on the North Shore has grown into a place where friends, families, locals, and visitors can slow down, get moving, and spend time together outside.

Our mission is to make outdoor recreation feel fun, accessible, and connected to the place we call home, while doing our part to take care of it.

Meet Michelle Sunshine

Shore Thing Rentals is a local business with a personal touch—and Michelle is at the heart of it.

Since opening in 2012, Michelle has built Shore Thing around her love of the water, the North Shore beaches, and bringing people together outdoors.

For her, the business has never been just about renting kayaks or paddleboards. It’s about creating opportunities for people to try something new, make memories, move their bodies, and discover a different side of Long Island.

Whether you’re a longtime customer or visiting for the first time, Michelle and the Shore Thing team are here to help you find your way onto the water.

We’re proud to operate a low carbon footprint business and believe enjoying the outdoors should go hand in hand with protecting it.

We regularly participate in waterfront cleanups and support the Coalition to Save Hempstead Harbor. Shore Thing loves cleaning beaches locally and all over the world. We encourage our customers to help keep our harbor beautiful, too.

Spot some litter while you're out? Bring it back and we'll trade you for an ice pop or another treat.
